Manitoba Study Paints Bleak Picture In North

It costs almost $5,000 more to live in northwestern Ontario than in Manitoba.
That’s the findings of a new report from the Province of Manitoba.
Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association President Dave Canfield says he’s not surprised the cost of electricity, home heating and insurance is so much cheaper in Manitoba.
The study found that a utility bundle in Manitoba costs $2,700 compared to $7,600 in Ontario.
Canfield says this makes it very difficult to attract business.
Canfield notes he’s been raising the issue at the Association of Municipalities for years and says he plans to use the study the next time he gets a chance to meet with provincial cabinet ministers.
