Marten Falls Declares State Of Emergency

A state of emergency has been declared on the Marten Falls First Nation.

It’s because the water treatment plant has not been working for the past three days.

The band says the community has been left without any drinking water and sewage is starting to back up.

The chief of the community blames the federal government because payments for operations and maintenance of the system aren’t being made in a timely manner.

Kiiwetinoong MPP Sol Mamakwa says the community is evacuating and help is needed to get the water running again as soon as possible.
