Matt Murray Continues To Be Talk Of NHL Playoffs

The solid play of Thunder Bay’s Matt Murray for the Pittsburgh Penguins during the Stanley Cup Playoffs is no surprise to his former goalie coach.

Rick Evoy coached Murray with the Thunder Bay Pee Wee Kings and says the Penguins goaltender was very impressive even at a young age.

Evoy says Matt had so many natural moves at the age of nine and he knew right away that he would make it big.

He says Murray caught the eye of a former NHL goalie Ron Tugnutt at a tournament years ago in Ottawa.

The 22-year old Murray played his junior hockey with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

He has joined Ken Dryden and Mike Vernon as the only goalies who have recorded more playoffs victories than regular season wins during their rookie campaigns.
