MPP Bill Mauro is attempting to explain the 25-percent reduction in hydro rates this summer.
According to the province, customers have been paying to maintain hydro plants over a 20-year period, and changing that to a 30-year period will help.
Critics charge the government of doing nothing about hydro rates, to which Mauro told a news conference yesterday this is far from the first initiative, the critics are completely off base.
When asked if this reduction has anything to do with an impending election, Mauro repeated his government has been working on many cost saving programs well before this announcement.
