The Mayor of Sioux Lookout is praising the relationship his community has with First Nations within the Nishnawbe Aski Nation.
Mayor Doug Lawrance helped open the three day Keewaywin Conference at the Lac Seul Event Centre Tuesday morning.
Lawrance says they have seen success in a number of areas including education and sports.
He says their top graduating student in art at Queen Elizabeth High School this past year was from Fort Severn First Nation.
Lawrance says the art work that comes out is “spectacular and deep in culture”.
He adds Indigenous youth continue to gain success in athletics, both on the local and provincial stage.
Lawrance stresses NAN has been instrumental in helping his community become a hub in health, education and tourism.
