Mcgowan makes history at Lake of the Woods Speedway

Brodie Mcgowan etched his name into Lake of the Woods Speedway history on Sunday, June 21, claiming his first ever feature win in the Riverview Industries WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds. In doing so, he became the only driver to have won a feature race in each of the classes that run regularly at the track.

Racing returned to the Speedway for the second time this season under sunny skies, with the Riverview Industries WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Q104 Limited Stocks, and HD Contracting Ent. 4-Cylinders all on the card.

Midwest Modifieds

Mcgowan and Nick Hooper shared the front row for the feature, and it didn’t take long for Mcgowan to make his move. He grabbed the lead on lap one and never surrendered it. Christopher Leek gave chase and made his presence felt, but couldn’t find a way past, settling for second as Edward Bell applied pressure in the final five laps. The race ran green to checkered.

In the heat, Bell charged from fifth to first to take the win, with Leek and Mcgowan rounding out the top three.

Q104 Limited Stocks

Bryson McDonald started on the pole in the feature and made it look easy, holding off the field to take his second win of the season. Behind him, Justin Krause and Logan McDonald put on a show — swapping positions and trading slide jobs — before Krause was forced to retire. Matt Taylor held on for third, with Taylor Christian and Darrin Rear completing the top five.

Krause had won the heat race earlier in the day, using the full width of the track to work his way to the front. Dave Rogers finished second in the heat, McDonald third.

Madoc Mulholland led the 4-Cylinders from start to finish in the feature, grabbing the early lead and never facing a serious threat after Alexander Farr — who had been chasing him down — broke down near the halfway point. A late-race caution did nothing to slow Mulholland down. Shelden McDonald finished second, with Lorne Dubois rounding out the podium after starting eighth.

The class ran two heats. Mulholland charged from fifth in Heat 1 to take the win, with McDonald and Will Alcock behind him. Farr controlled Heat 2, pulling away from the field to win over rookie Lorne Dubois, with Tyler Brooks third.
