Officials at the Northern Ontario Medical School are explaining why they are taking their first students a year later than expected.
The first Medical School in 35 years will start taking students in September 2005.
The original plan was to accept students for 2004.
Founding Dead Roger Strasser says it was to ensure the quality of courses is not hurt by keeping to what he called an unrealistic target date.
Executive Director David Boyle says people of Northern Ontario would rather see the school take an extra year to develop a curriculum tailored to their needs.
The decision to target 2005 for the first class followed lengthy board deliberations over a risk assessment report from Dr. Boyle.
