60% of students contacted by the new Northern Ontario School of
Medicine have accepted a provisional offer to attend the Thunder Bay and
Sudbury campuses this Fall.
Dr. Jill Konkin is the Associate Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs
and says the 56 students had special qualifications as most lived in Northern Ontario or rural communities.
Konkin says evidence shows that most medical students that live in
Northern Ontario will stay and practice in Regional communities.
Interested applicants had until Tuesday to respond to a provisional
offer, and Konkin notes the next step is to contact those on a waiting
list to fill the vacant seats.
