Melillo says housing funding not going where its needed

The MP for the Kenora Riding says he’s disappointed that so little federal money for the Housing Accelerator Fund has ended up in the region.

Kenora mayor Andrew Poirier brought the issue up recently saying no communities west of Thunder Bay have received funding.

Eric Melillo suggests the Liberals are concentrating on more urban areas for the program.

“It’s shocking to see the way they have been rolling out that program”, states Melillo.

“Rural communities in general in Ontario received very little (of the funding).”

Melillo says the Liberal government is instead choosing to focus on urban areas.

“It’s seems the government is focused on meeting the housing needs in the bigger cities, but failing to recognize the housing crisis we have in northwestern Ontario and other rural areas.”

Melillo suggests too much of the housing money is not going towards municipalities and is instead is being used to create more bureaucracy.
