Mental Health Nurses In Sioux Lookout/Red Lake

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is addressing mental health and addictions needs in Sioux Lookout and Red Lake.
The Board has placed a nurse in Queen Elizabeth High School and Red Lake District High School to help students.
Director of Education Sean Monteith says the nurses will provide short-term assessment.
Monteith notes the position will evolve in scope and the nurses will act as a front-line defence for support and intervention.
Monteith says Red Lake and Sioux Lookout were selected because the Board felt they had the greatest need.
He adds mental health and addictions issues are often linked and are particularly prevalent in the northwest.
The nurses are funded by the provincial government.
