Some international help with the wildland firefight in Canada.
Prime Minister Mark Carney says Mexico intends to deploy 200 firefighters in the coming weeks.
Mexican firefighters are already working on fires in British Columbia and northwestern Ontario.
About 100 arrived in Ontario in the middle of June and were divided into five brigades, with some being deployed to fires in northwestern Ontario.
A release from the Government of Mexico indicated that their roles included the installation of water pumping systems, putting out hot spots, and helping to create firebreaks to slow a fire’s spread.
Another 100 firefighters were sent to Canada at the beginning of July.
They are helping with wildland fires in British Columbia.
It is not immediately known where the additional firefighters will be deployed.
Earlier this year, the governments of Canada and Mexico ratified a new agreement allowing for the sharing of personnel and resources.
Last year, Mexican firefighters aided wildland fire suppression efforts in northern Manitoba.
They were last in Ontario in 2023.
