The English River Miners scored three third period goals to pull out a come from behind 6-5 victory over the Thunder Bay North Stars Saturday night in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Ear Falls Arena Saturday night. Each side would connect twice in the opening 20 minutes with Eric Champagne and Jake Staples finding the back of the net for English River while Cashen Tighe and Ryan McQueen countered for Thunder Bay.
The North Stars then went up 4-2 in the middle session thanks to Bradley Belisle and Nick Nigro before Mark Spong pulled the Miners to within one at 17:54. In the final frame, Ryker Moreau tied it at 2:29 and Hank Bouchard put the home side up by one with 9:19 to go. Layne anderson then notched the eventual game-winner 11 seconds later before Brett Wolframe added one late for the visitors to round out the scoring. Shots on goal in the contest were 31 apiece with P.D. Melgoza picking up the win and Nathaniel Dupuis the loss.
