Minimum Wage Hike Not Sitting Well With NOACC

The minimum wage increase to $15 announced by the Premier is not sitting well with members of the Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce.

Charla Robinson says increasing the cost of doing business, which includes wages along with heat, hydro, transportation and insurance could prove too much for smaller businesses.

She warns job cuts could be coming.

Robinson says a lot of northern small business owners are already on the edge.

She also warns that the cost of many everyday items will go up,

NOACC is throwing its support behind an annual wage increase in line with inflation, as well as the Basic Income Pilot program being tested in Thunder Bay and Hamilton.
