There are more calls for a reset to the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and the resignation of the remaining commissioners.
Those requests came as two commissioners listened for nearly three hours from family members during Wednesday’s Assembly of First Nations meeting in Regina.
Hilda Anderson-Pyrz stressed the commission has failed in communication, failed families and failed to build trust.
Deputy Grand Chief of Nishnawbe Aski Nation Anna Betty Achneepineskum says there’s been a lack of communication from the start.
Achneepineskum says she doesn’t fully blame the commissioners because they are governed by Federal government policies.
She notes if the government listened to families, the inquiry would have been done right at the beginning.
Others are critical of the inquiry not being able to hold police more accountable in their investigations.
Commissioner Michelle Audette admits mistakes have been made in their probe.
Audette says they were too silent at the beginning and stresses that needs to stop.
She notes they are working on changes and they want to ensure they are doing everything well.
