The Ministry of Natural Resources has been given 48-hours to tear down
a building set up on the Sachigo River in Northwestern Ontario to test
water.
Alvin Beardy is the Chief of the Sachigo Lake First Nation and says
they are upset the MNR decided to erect the building without the bands
consent.
Beardy says this is just the latest in an on-going battle with the
Province over land rights and consultations with aboriginal communities.
He says MNR officials are either ignoring their own Government’s
policies on aboriginal rights or are simply incompetant.
A ministry spokesperson says the station likely won’t be removed
until later this month because most workers are on vacation.
