MNR Busy At Home And Abroad

It was a busy weekend for the Ministry of Natural Resources with at least 20 new forest fires in our region.
The MNR says high humidity, warm temperatures, lightning and human-caused fires were all factors.
The main fire of not is located about 58-kilometres southwest of Red Lake in the Sydney Lake area.
Multiple crews are conducting ground and air attack in an attempt to hold the fire which is threatening some tourist camps.
It’s currently 109-hectares in size and not under control.
Meantime, Ontario has increased its support to western Canada and its forest fire fighting efforts.
Over 400 MNR personnel are now working in the western provinces and territories.
150 alone are in Alberta.
Others are in British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories and the Yukon.
Waterbombers and support aircraft are also working in Alberta and B.C.
There are 60 active fires here at home.
