The beginning of April is drawing closer and that marks the official start of the forest fire season in Northwestern Ontario.
Fire crews are supposed to be gearing up to battle blazes in the region but firefighters are also members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.
Despite the current OPSEU strike, union spokesperson Carl Bleich says there will be fire crews available when April 1st rolls around.
Bleich stresses that firefighting is considered an essential service and crews will be on hand to protect forests of the region.
