The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is reporting eight new fires over the weekend.
Two fires sparked in the Sioux Lookout district near Cawston Lake and Lake St. Joseph.
Both are small and not under control, but no problems are anticipated.
The forest fire hazard is low to moderate across most of the region with a high to extreme hazard north of the Sioux Lookout and Nipigon districts.
There are 143-active fires across the northwest.
Meantime, the province is reporting good progress being made on two large fires.
Resources and personnel are now being scaled back in the KI First Nation and Nibinamik First Nation areas.
Crews have gained the upper hand on a series of forest fires in that district.
Meantime, mop-up efforts are underway on Nipigon Fire #99.
