The federal government is making a special fund ensuring small northern communities get infrastructure money for basic needs.
Local MP Patty Hajdu will announce the details in the coming months, for things like water treatment plants or roofs on community centres.
She says this is part of the latest federal budget just released.
She adds the money may seem insignificant, but these communities need their needs met, to ensure new residents move into smaller towns.
Hajdu also says the government is concerned with Canadian interests as per the softwood lumber dispute, ahead of her visit to Wisconsin at the end of May.
