The Town of Sioux Lookout has tightened the purse strings and implemented a hiring freeze in response to a deficit of nearly $500,000.
Mayor John MacDonald has instructed management to look at cost cutting measures and says a new accounting system is in place to better track expenses.
MacDonald blames the situation on a number of things from the previous fiscal year and says he has full confidence in Mayor-Elect Kathy Kiepick and the incoming Council to balance the books.
