A slight increase in moose in parts of Northwestern Ontario.
Ministry of Natural Resources Biologist Chris Martin says the numbers are up in an area between Nestor Falls and Ignace that had seen a decline since 2000.
He says there are about 2400 moose.
A survey of unit 12-B in the Atikokan area identified 18-hundred moose, down from 24-hundred in 2009.
He notes that it’s hard to pinpoint specific reasons in those areas without doing really detailed studies, but adds that some factors that come into play include climate and habitat changes.
