A Provincial decision to allow School Boards to start closing older
schools is being well received here at home.
Keewatin-Patricia District School Board Director of Education Janet
Wilkenson says a number of children are learning in crumbling classrooms.
Pinewood, Riverview, Wabigoon and Oxdrift Schools in Dryden, Hudson
School as well as Valleyview in Kenora have been deemed prohibitive to
repair by the government.
Education Minister Kathleen Wynne has promised to build 100-new schools
across Ontario and Wilkenson is hoping to secure funds for a new school in Dryden.
Wilkenson says the Board hasn’t started a school closure study.
