The Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital is welcoming $17,189 from the Northern Cancer Fund.
The money will go towards the purchase of new chemotherapy equipment, including biological safety cabinet, a patient controlled pump and a fridge.
Chair of the Hospital’s Board of Directors Terry Bursey says the department is outdated and needs to be replaced.
The cabinet hasn’t been updated since 1998.
The purpose of it is to remove fumes and exhausts them to the outside building during the preparation of chemotherapy agents to protect patients from the harmful effects of exposure to medications.
A new fridge is needed because the current one isn’t reliable at maintaining temperatures to hold the efficiency of medications.
In addition, the Patient Controlled Analgesic pump will deliver pain medication in a comfortable way.
A presentation was made in the community today, and similar ones are happening tomorrow in Dryden and Sioux Lookout.
