Bad news for Thunder Bay’s Bombardier plant.
This Friday the company will begin giving out temporary layoff notices.
Union spokesperson, Unifor’s Andy Savella, says there will be about twelve to twenty notices given out Friday with sporadic ones being handed out in the following weeks totalling about fifty members.
Company spokesperson Stephanie Ash says the layoffs are the result of a reorganization to prepare for the work required on new enhanced bi-level street cars which will begin early in 2015.
Ash says it’s unfortunate that the layoffs are coming during the Christmas season, but that’s the nature of the manufacturing business.
There’s no word on when those workers will be called back.
