More Life In Mining Industry In Northwest Ontario

More activity is coming in the mining industry in Northwestern Ontario.

Generation Mining has received both federal and provincial approval to proceed the necessary permits for construction and operation of a new mine near Marathon.

The project involves the construction, operation, decommissioning, and remediation of three open pits to produce cooper, palladium, and platinum.

It also includes an onsite ore processing facility, a 115 kV transmission line, and access road, a mine rock storage area, a process solids management facility, and a water management system.

The processing plant is expected to operate at about 9.2 million tonnes of ore per year and produce roughly 87,00 tonnes of cooper-concentrate annually.

The concentrate will be delivered to a third-party facility for further processing into refined critical minerals.

Generation Mining anticipates that over its planned 13-year min life the project is expected to produce 1,905,000 ounces of palladium, 467 million of copper, 537,000 ounces of platinum, 151,000 ounces of gold and 2,823,00 ounces of silver in payable metals.

Some 900 jobs are expected to be created for the construction over a 18 to 24 month period before an operating workforce of 375 people takes over.

The company is hoping to begin construction in the first quarter of 2023 and work will last about 2 years.
