The Dryden Police Services Board says they have been looking at cost savings for the past year.
The City of Dryden has been demanding cost cutting measures across the board and the Police Services responded by closing the Communications Centre.
Chair Peter Andrusco says they were looking at downsizing but notes the closure was the only way to go in order to see significant savings.
Andrusco says the decision was made because they have seen a decline in communities using the service in the past years as well as costly upgrades that need to be made.
Andrusco notes there are no further cuts anticipated but they are always looking at cost saving measures.
Ambulance service in the area isn’t impacted as it’s being run out of Kenora.
The Dryden Fire Service will have to find an alternate service provider but there is word that the Service has been looking at options before the announcement.
Police Chief Rob Davis says the Police Service currently spends roughly $700,000 in Communications Centre staffing.
