Motion Passed To Create Bear Management Committee

A motion to create an all-party bear management committee is a success.
It was passed today in the legislature, and NDP Natural Resources Critic John Vanthof says it is a victory for Northern Ontario.
Vanthof’s committee will be responsible for investigating the impact of the cancellation of the spring bear hunt, cuts to the MNR bear management budget and the ongoing issue of human-bear conflicts.
They will have the task of creating a comprehensive, fully-funded bear management strategy.
However, he’s not impressed by the Conservative Party who opposed the decision.
Vanthof adds it’s further proof Tim Hudak and the Tories are turning their backs on the North.
