Motorists Asked To Be Careful As New School Year Is Here

The Northwestern Ontario Student Services Consortium is asking motorists to be alert over the next couple of days as a new school year is here.

General Manager Judi Green says you should slow down as kids often get excited and don’t pay attention on the first couple of days of school.

Kids are asked to ensure they look both ways before crossing the street.

Police will be out in full force around area schools to ensure it’s a safe start to the year.

OPP Constable Guy Beaudry stresses all motorists must stop if they approach a school bus with its flashing lights out.

Motorists failing to stop for a bus picking up or dropping off students can face a $400 fine plus six demerit points on their drivers license.

Beaudry notes a second conviction within five years could land you a $1,000-$4,000 fine.
