MP Accuses Prime Minister Of Avoiding Tough Questions

The MP for Kenora is disappointed a motion to set up a committee looking into anti-corruption and the WE scandal was struck down.

Eric Melillo says he’s not advocating for an early election, he’s just looking for answers.

“Let’s be clear that the motion that the Conservatives brought forward was not a confidence motion, the Prime Minister chose to make it one. It looks like the Liberals are looking for any way, any reason, to plunge us into an election during this pandemic because they are worried about what’s going to come out of Committee investigations facing their scandals and tough questions being held to account. So it’s clear they don’t want Parliament to work for Canadians, they want it to work for themselves.”

Melillo stresses he’s determined to get to the bottom of some of the questions Canadians have been asking.

“As we know with the WE scandal and many others throughout the years, Justin Trudeau’s government is no stranger to corruption. Right now we have the Finance Committee, the Ethics Committee, the Health Committee, bringing forward motions and looking at ways we can uncover some of these documents and look at what’s behind all the blacked out information.”

Melillo adds “These committees have been filibustered. So Justin Trudeau has been ordering his MP’s to run out the clock and do everything they can to avoid these motions coming through. So our suggestion was, fine, why don’t we create a completely separate committee that can focus on this corruption.”

Melillo says the Conservatives will continue to press the government for answers.

“The bottom line is that if the Prime Minister continues to play these games, we aren’t going to let him off the hook. And if he wants to force Canadians to the polls because he wants to stop the Opposition from doing their jobs then he can explain that justification to Canadians.”
