The Province is dragging its feet when it comes to moving mining exploration forward in Northern Ontario.
So says Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell.
The NDP member says the Government is slow in processing paperwork, granting enivronmental approvals and giving mining companies the go-ahead to begin work.
Campbell adds the Province has failed to consult with First Nations communities.
She stresses the slow time-line is preventing Northerners from obtaining good paying jobs.
Sarah Campbell made the comments at the Kenora District Municipal Association Conference in Sioux Lookout.
She also talked about infrastructure.
Campbell says she wants to broker a new infrastructure deal for area communities.
She notes the current system is working very poorly and Municipalities can’t deal with rising costs.
Campbell says a permanent fund is needed to give municipalities greater flexibility when planning and carrying out programs.
