Lots of construction taking place by the old Tourist Centre at the Ontario/Manitoba boundary.
No, the province isn’t planning to re-open the building, but it is working to expand the rest area.
Crews have spent the summer clearing trees, brush and rock.
The Ministry of Transportation says it’s expanding the rest area to improve opportunities for motorists and truckers to take a break while traveling along the Trans-Canada Highway.
The MTO adds it will be improving lighting and adding an extra access point to the rest area.
The new site will be able to accommodate up to 15 transports.
The work is expected to continue into the fall.
The existing rest area has remained open during work.
