Northern communities must band together in order to grab the province’s attention on pressing issue.
That’s the feeling of Red Lake Mayor Phil Vinet as municipal leaders are in Toronto for the Ontario Good Roads conference.
Vinet says it’s time that municipal leaders unite, speak up and voice their concerns.
He notes everyone is impacted when a neighbouring community faces difficult times.
Red Lake plans to bring a number of issues to the table during the conference.
Vinet says poor infrastructure, shortage of electricity, resource sharing and low property assessments are among the issues expected to be raised.
Red Lake has arranged a meeting with the Energy Minister.
The City of Dryden has set up a meeting with the new Minister of Infrastructure.
Mayor Craig Nuttall and City Manager Joe van Koeverden will try to lobby for provincial funding to fix the aging underpass.
Officials will also meet with the President of the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation about the low $14-million assessment of the Dryden Domtar Mill.
