Municipal Leaders in Kenora District Meet in S.L.

The 67th Annual Kenora District Municipal Association Conference starts Thursday in Sioux Lookout.
President Garry Parkes says they have a full schedule of speakers for the 3-day gathering and notes this years theme is ‘Working Together to make a Stronger Voice.’
Parkes says delegates will be discussing the process for municipalities to acquire crown land, health care, the economy and urban reserves.
Kenora will be the only Municipality not in attendance.
The City decided to not support the Regional ‘Common Voice’ initiative
Representatives from Municipal Affairs and Housing and Natural Resources will be speaking at the KDMA Conference.
MNR Minister Donna Cansfield won’t be in attendance but notes the Province continues to work with area communities to solve the forestry crisis.
Cansfield says when she was handed the portfolio she made a vow to help the Region make the transition into the future.
She says additional funds for logging roads and the prosperity fund have had a positive impact on the Region’s forest sector.
