The coroner’s office in northwestern Ontario is investigating the death of a murder suspect while he was in custody.
Cody Allistair Thompson, 18, died last Friday at
Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
Thompson was transported to hospital from Thunder Bay District Jail on Aug. 11 due to an unspecified medical emergency.
Police spokesman Chris Adams says the cause of death is as yet unknown, but it “may involve” drugs.
Thompson was one of four men charged with second-degree murder in the death of Robert Francis Topping, 54, in March.
Regional supervising coroner Dr. Michael Wilson says since
Thompson’s death occurred while he was in custody, a coroner’s
inquest is mandatory.
