Myron Von Bargen

Myron Richard Von Bargen (affectionately known as “Red”) passed away peacefully of natural causes at Dryden Regional Hospital Centre on January 30, 2013 at the age of 86. Red was born in Belvidere, Minnesota, in 1926.

Red had a full and interesting life. He met the love of his life, Margaret (Marg) while playing baseball in Dauphin, Manitoba, and they married in 1950. He played minor league baseball, and kept books for an oil drilling company. He managed a car dealership in Rainy River before moving to Dryden, and worked at the Dryden Paper Mill as a chemical plant operator and welder.

When he retired, he put his energy into his other hobbies, including hunting and fishing. Red could be found every morning having coffee with his friends on the Golden Mile.

Red is survived by Marg and their three children: Eric Von Bargen (wife Bruna and children Alissa and Christopher), Donna Von Bargen (husband Michael Dresel and children Paul, Ellen, and Karen), and David Von Bargen (children Kelly and Cody). He regularly beat all of them at cribbage.

A celebration of Red’s life will be held at a later date, to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Dryden Regional Health Centre’s equipment fund or hospice fund. Donations should indicate which fund is preferred, and they can be sent to the attention of the Dryden Health Services Foundation, 58 Goodall St, Box 3003, Dryden, ON, P8N 2Z6.
