NAN Leaders Discuss Policing

The Nishnawbe-Aski Nation is taking its policing message to Queen’s Park.
Deputy Grand Chief Stan Beardy and other First Nation leaders are in Toronto to hold a News Conference prior to a meeting with Community Safety Minister Rick Bartolucci.
The meeting comes after the closure of the Kasabonika Lake and Marten Falls Police detachments and the growing policing crisis on Northern reserves.
Only 1 of 35-detachments meet National Building Code standards.
Beardy says they will give the Province 30 days to start solving the problem before Police pull out of NAN Communities.
He says it’s inhumane and ridiculous to expect officers to work in detachments that don’t have running water or basic heating.
