NAN Wants Control Of Their Own Education

The Nishnawbe Aski Nation is declaring their right to control education in NAN territory to the Federal Government.
Grand Chief Harvey Yesno says for the treaty to really take shape, communities must co-operate.
He says those that are behind will be able to get support from other communities.
Yesno adds their goal is to create an education system that is on-par with the remainder of provincial schools.
The system would allow Aboriginal youth to have a sense of identity.
However, Yesno says it’s too bad that communities must deal with legislation put in place by the feds.
Over two-hundred delegates met in Thunder Bay this week to form the Education Treaty.
Yesno says that his role is to engage other Grand Chiefs across the country.
