NAPS arrest suspect in assault on Poplar Hill

A 24-year-old man from the Poplar Hill First Nation has been charged following an assault with an axe.

The incident took place Monday night after the Nishnawbe Aski Police responded to a call for service.

A woman did not appear to suffer any serious injuries as a result of the axe attack, and police were unable to locate the suspect.

Through investigation, he was indentified and arrested the next day.

He’s faces three charges, including assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a release order.

He appeared in court on Wednesday and is being held in custody pending a future court date.
