All 165 OPP Detachments will be keeping a closer watch on
drivers this week as part of the annual National Road Safety Week campaign.
This year’s initiative runs through next Monday and will target the usual culprits; speeders, impaired drivers and those improperly buckled up.
The OPP says last year in Ontario, 322 people were killed in
crashes on roads patrolled by the provincial force.
Transport Canada statistics for 2006, the last full year
available, indicate just under 3,000 people were killed in
collisions across the country.
