NDP Leader Tackles Several Issues

Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath has completed her tour of Kenora and Thunder Bay by addressing several northern Ontario issues.
Horwath says the provincial Government needs to do a better job moving the Ring of Fire forward.
She suggests the Liberals are dragging their feet with the mining project.
Horwath says a half-a-dozen years have already been wasted and they must act now on addressing several key issues including electricity, transportation and engaging First Nations.
Horwath is also keeping a close eye on the province’s plan for the Thunder Bay Coal plant.
The government says it plans to convert the station to burn biomass by 2015.
Horwath says she’s heard similar announcements before and believes this could be a ploy at securing seats.
She says $20-million has already been wasted in broken promises in the conversion of the plant.
Horwath expects further action will be needed to convince residents in northwestern Ontario that change will happen.
And the NDP leader isn’t very impressed with a government move to bring back a 2-year spring bear hunt in certain parts of northern Ontario.
Horwath says the Wynne government is grasping at straws trying to stay in power and calls the announcement “electioneering”.
She says the move won’t solve the nuisance bear problem.
