Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP John Rafferty says the penalty handed down to the three suspended senators isn’t severe enough.
Rafferty says the senators shouldn’t be able to keep their health, dental and life insurance benefits.
The NDP member notes things really haven’t changed.
He says Canadians see the roughly $100-million spent on the senate as money that can be used elsewhere.
Rafferty points to better pensions and affordable living.
The senators will see salary cuts, and will also be barred from the upper chamber for the duration of the parliamentary session.
