An MPP from Northern Ontario says a new Tory bill would rack up significant penalty costs and risk major lawsuits without addressing hydro costs in Ontario.
Gilles Bisson says Bill 39 would allow renewable energy project contracts to be torn up.
The New Democrat member says with thousands of signed renewable energy contracts, and many more in the works, this could expose Ontario taxpayers to huge settlements that would take decades to pay off.
Thompson says the private members’ bill seeks to restore municipal powers on wind turbine issues like setback distances.
