NDP: Proposed Minimum Wage Hike Not Enough

Ontario’s NDP leader says Premier Doug Ford has waited too long to implement a $15 an hour minimum wage.

Andrea Horwath says it was supposed to be increased to that level three years ago.

But now, it doesn’t meet the cost of living.

“The cost of everything is going up. Auto insurance is up, hydro is up, gas is up, milk is going up 8%, butter is going up 12%. Everything is going up but people’s wages.”

Horwath says the minimum wage needs to be $17 an hour to keep pace.

She notes workers have been robbed $5,300 since the Premier cancelled a planned increase three years ago.

Horwath says $15 an hour won’t make up for those losses and hardships.
