A great range of expertise is now in charge of the Experimental Lakes Area.
That’s how Matt McCandless with the International Institute for Sustainable Development feels about the new board of directors for the facility.
McCandless says the board will ensure the facility is run as a successful non-profit enterprise.
The ELA board won’t be involved in day-to-day matters at the Experimental Lakes Area.
The role of the board would primarily be for oversight of operations, providing advice on business directions, research directions, and fundraising.
Some of the members include Phil Fontaine, the longest serving in the history of the Assembly of First Nations, and Glenn Crook, Vice President of Commercial Financial Services with RBC.
Other members on the board include former Auditor General Sheila Fraser and Dr. James Bruce has held various positions within Environment Canada including Director of Environment Canada.
McCandless says all experiments are operational, they have been approved through the new regulations.
Research projects are now underway on Nano Silver, the long standing phosphorus experiment as well ass studying the impact of climate change on lake trout.
