Ontario Cabinet Ministers will hold regular meetings with native
leaders to keep disputes from ending up in the courts.
The deal struck Thursday behind closed doors at the Provincial
Legislature is being hailed by both sides.
Native Affairs Minister Michael Bryant says it’s the beginning of
a partnership with First Nations.
Ontario Regional Chief Charlie Fox says he’s hopeful the regular
meetings will put and end to the legal actions that often arise.
Fox says native logging in Northern Ontario is an example of a
dispute that often ends in a communications breakdown.
