New Development For Atikokan Mill

Resolute Forest Products is investing $50-million in a new random-length sawmill in Atikokan.
Production is scheduled to begin early next year.
President Richard Garneau says along with the creation of 90 new jobs, he sees it helping with its pulp and paper operations.
He says they still think about the repossession of the mill in Fort Frances, and that the development in Atikokan could serve effectively in terms of cost and competitiveness.
The company hopes to begin construction later this spring.
Meanwhile Atikokan mayor Dennis Brown says it’s going to be good for the entire area, as well as First Nations.
He says it’s great to be back in the forestry industry once again, considering at one time they had two mills in the town, which provided 350 jobs.
Atikokan Renewable Fuels which is producing wood pellets for Ontario Power Generation’s former coal plant in Atikokan, is operating out of the former Proboard mill.
