No amount of rain could have put a damper on today.
Sioux Lookout signed a friendship agreement with Lac Seul First Nation in celebration of National Aboriginal Day.
The municipality plans to ink a similar deal with Slate Falls First Nation on July 6th as Chief Lorraine Craine was unable to attend the ceremony.
Sioux Lookout Mayor Dennis Leney says they want a closer relationship and notes its a chance to enhance economic development in all three communities.
However it is not a new inititave. The municipality and first nations communities have been working on an agreement since Sioux Lookout’s founding in 1874.
The ceremony was witnessed by Garnet Angeconeb, Ida Kenny, Peggy Sanders and John Cole.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell also attended the ceremony, where she awarded Angeconeb with a 60th anniversary Diamond Jubilee medal for his continuous support in the community.
