New Gold says they have now spent $180-million to acquire the necessary equipment for its proposed open pit gold mine north of Barwick.
That’s about 20% of the projected capital spending.
President Randall Oliphant says they are seeing some benefits as the project nears a start up next year.
Oliphant says with limited development activity going on within the industry, New Gold is benefiting in lower costs for equipment and access to highly-qualified personnel.
The company is anticipating the province’s review of the environment assessment in the coming weeks.
