Construction is still several months away.
But New Gold president Randall Oliphant says they are already buying up some of the equipment they need for their planned open pit gold mine north of Barwick.
The company has already spent 180 million dollars on equipment in anticipation of construction beginning next year.
That’s about 20 per cent of the company projected capital spending.
Oliphant says with limited development activity going on within the industry, New Gold is benefiting in lower costs for equipment and access to highly-qualified personnel.
Pending the outcome of its environmental assessment review in the coming weeks, New Gold hopes to start construction next year.
