New Gold has finalized a participation agreement with the Metis Nation of Ontario.
It recognizes certain benefits for area Metis with respect to the company’s planned gold mine near Barwick in such areas as employment, education, training, business and quality of life.
President Robert Gallagher says the signing concludes a process started by then Rainy River Resources 4-years ago.
Metis Nation President Gary Lipinski is pleased with the agreement, noting the one of the most significant components is a recognition of the environment.
The company has also agreed to establishing new Metis bursaries at Lakehead University and Confederation College.
